The freshest arrival on the Turnpike is iNoodle Richmond, at 10456 Midlothian Turnpike, which opened last year and picked up its ABC license in March 2026. The dumplings are the point. Richmond Magazine's write-up singles out "tender, from-scratch dumplings" made by a chef who came up through New York's Chinatown dim sum houses. The dining room is themed to a Chinese street scene, which is more fun than the strip-center exterior lets on.

At the other end of the culinary bell curve, Midlothian Chef's Kitchen is still the most credentialed table in the ZIP code. Chef David Dunlap was previously Executive Sous Chef at The Inn at Little Washington and Corporate Executive Chef for Quirk Hotels in Richmond and Charlottesville, and the restaurant has been named Best Restaurant in Chesterfield by Richmond Magazine. 3. Independence Day at Independence Golf Club on Saturday, July 4 from 6:00 PM. The one to arrive early for if you want a real view of the fireworks off the fairway.

A useful thing to know if you have never done it: Uptown Alley bills bowling separately from event tickets on holiday nights, so if you want a lane, reserve it as its own thing.

Where to walk when it is ninety-two degrees

This is where the eastern half of the Turnpike quietly wins the summer.

Mid-Lothian Mines Park is a 44-acre preserve at 13301 N. Woolridge Rd. that opened as a park in 2004 on the site of what Chesterfield County describes as "one of the first major industrial sites in the United States." Coal was discovered here around 1701, near the French Huguenot settlement on the James River, and the mines here supplied the furnaces at Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond in the nineteenth century. The Mid-Lothian shaft was flooded after an 1855 explosion that killed 55 miners, and a second explosion in 1882 trapped 32 more. The stacked stone ruins along the path are the reason the trail feels different from every other suburban loop nearby.

The Loch Lothian Trail is a 1.6-mile loop rated 4.6 stars across roughly 858 reviews on AllTrails. The surface is paved asphalt around the lake with a wooden boardwalk section, and the park is open every day from 6:00 AM to 8:30 PM. Elevation gain tops out around 72 feet, which is another way of saying the summer heat is the only real climb.

The shade on the wooded stretch is the point in July. Bring water. The pond has ducks and, according to the county, the occasional turtle and snake, so keep a leash on the dog and eyes on smaller kids at the water's edge.

5. Evening — If it is late June or early July, add The Chapel or Independence Golf Club to the tail end. If not, a slow drive back east, windows down.
